Public Information

  • MPPA prepares a number of informational documents used to raise awareness of importance of industry to Maine’s economy. In 2010 MPPA produced The Paper Trail, a brochure explaining the history and benefits of Maine’s paper industry for the general public and The Economic Benefit of Maine’s Pulp and Paper Industry Poster, highlighting the production, jobs and economic contribution of the industry to Maine’s economy.
  • Every the two years, with the election of a new legislature, MPPA produces a Legislative Districts Poster showing each legislator and their legislative district.
  • In 2009 MPPA produced a white paper on the industry, with policy recommendations in our areas of focus. MPPA walked through the white paper with the Governor and House and Senate leaders. The white paper is currently being revised for use with the new governor and legislature.
  • MPPA maintains a website with information on the industry in Maine, policy recommendations, and company information.
  • In conjunction with the University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation, PIMA and TAPPI, MPPA annually organizes a two day pulp and paper symposium at the University of Maine. This symposium features industry leaders, students, and state and federal government officials speaking on issues related to Maine’s competitiveness in the global papermaking environment.
  • In the fall MPPA hosts its annual meeting, offering a chance for associate members to interact with mill officials, and focusing on topics of interest to the industry. Speakers at this meeting have included Governor Baldacci, Maine Senator Susan Collins, Patriarch Partners CEO Lynn Tilton, and many other industry and government leaders.
  • The Maine Pulp & Paper Association is often the source for the media for answering questions about the industry. In December 2009 Mainebiz ran a feature story on innovative ways that the pulp and paper industry in Maine is remaining competitive. Down East Magazine is currently working on an article about the revitalization of Maine’s pulp and paper mills. MPPA played an integral part in getting these stories envisioned, completed and published.
